Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , advertises itself as a stylish, alternative venue , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment became a nightmarish ordeal . While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I found behind its entrance was disturbing and far below any standard .

The ground was covered in grime , and a nauseating aroma of stale beer and uncleaned toilets polluted the entire pub. Smelling a mixture of urine , putrefaction and sour vomit . The serving zone , which should be the primary feature of any pub, was littered with unwashed glassware and litter that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The restroom was in even a truly awful state— clogged , with a broken handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human waste .

Many visitors have reported seeing bugs darting across the serving surface and signs of rats in the bar and house area .
